Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy supports children of all ages by incorporating the activities that are most important to you and your child into the Occupational Therapy intervention process. There are many ways Occupational Therapy might help your child such as:

  • Helping a child who has concentration challenges to succeed in school
  • Supporting a child with Autism to socialize and manage routines in the community
  • Helping a child who uses a wheelchair to play with his or her peers
  • Helping a child with a developmental disability to get dressed independently
  • Helping children to play with toys or use tools such as crayons...and so much more

Occupational Therapy address each child’s unique skills, needs, barriers, and support systems to help them participate right alongside their peers in any environment.  When evaluating children the Occupational Therapist also seeks to understand the child’s environment and tasks and activities that they need help with. Goals and treatment plans are made to help the child and families attain those goals.

Speech Therapy

Children who have developmental delays or special needs often need help to improve their language, speech and communication skills. Children who cannot express their wants and needs can become frustrated and turn to inappropriate behaviors to try to express themselves. Speech therapy can help your child become a more successful communicator, so he or she can more easily share his or her wants, needs and feelings. Your child is evaluated by a Speech Therapist, then based upon the evaluation and the families concerns and priorities, customized treatment goals are established. After the initial evaluation is complete the treatment begins. Therapy is scheduled 1-3 times per week for 30-60 minute sessions to target personalized treatment goals. Therapeutic interventions are play based. Treatment goals for speech and language may focus on articulation, language, stuttering, fluency, voice disorders, feeding, reading and literacy. In addition our speech therapist may work on developing augmentative communication for your child if needed for communication.

Physical Therapy

Pediatric Physical Therapy can address issues along the span of childhood.  Childhood is an exciting and busy time for development. Due to all of this activity, often physical impairments can arise and require the skills of a physical therapist to correct.  We can treat a variety of issues from foot pain to back pain. Along with pain issues, Physical Therapists can help correct developmental delays. For example, children having difficulty learning to walk, run or jump.  We create treatment plans that integrate therapeutic exercises into fun play activities and encourage gross motor development across all age spans.

Pediatric Physical Therapy is most successful when parents and therapists work together.  Your Physical Therapist will educate you on an important home exercise plan so you can help your little one progress to their best abilities. Physical Therapy is an essential piece of managing spina bifida, cerebral palsy, genetic abnormalities, and dystrophies.  At any point your child has a movement or pain issue tell your doctor to send you to BPT Kidz. We look forward to working with you!
